History
Government Degree College, Nandikotkur, is a scenic institution surrounded by lush greenery, just 3 km away from the town on the Midthur and Nandyal road. Established in 1982, it initially offered Arts and Commerce programs, later introducing Science programs in 1985. The college gained recognition under 2(f) and 12(B) by UGC in 1991 and 1992, respectively. In 2004, it relocated to its current 14.01-acre campus, generously donated by the philanthropist late Sri Zuvvaji Sunkanna Goud garu. Since 2010, the college has been affiliated with Rayalaseema University, Kurnool. Notably, it underwent NAAC assessments in 2008 (C-grade) and 2015 (B-grade).
Nandikotkur, a grade-II Municipality and Mandal in Nandyal District, holds historical significance as a gateway to Srisailam. The town is home to the revered Lord Mallikarjuna Swamy and Goddess Bhramramba Devi temples, known for their unique combination of Jyotirlingam and Maha Shakti. Surrounded by places like Sangameshwaram, Mahanandhi, Kolanu Bharathi, and the Great Indian Bustard Birds Sanctuary at Rollapadu, the town adds to its charm.
The college currently offers six programs, including four single major programs: B.Sc (Computer Science), B.Sc (Botany), BA (Political Science), B.Com (General), and two conventional programs, BA (CA) and B.Sc (MPCS). Approximately 120 students, mainly from SC, ST, and OBC communities, pursue higher education. With 18 teaching staff, 01 physical director, and 01 librarian, the college aims to meet students' academic needs and prepare them for global employment opportunities and responsible citizenship. Among the faculty, 09 hold Ph.D.'s, 01 holds an M.Phil, 04 are pursuing Ph.D.'s, and 05 are qualified NET/SLET. The non-teaching staff includes 16 members contributing to the smooth functioning of the administration.
